A recommended reading list is a tricky thing to write because there are so many great books. In this case I chose only books I have read thoroughly and have recommended regularly. Each of these books have impacted my life in tangible ways. I recommend them because I think they can influence yours.
Why a Suggested Reading List
People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
-Zig Ziglar
Jim Rohn was fond of saying, “Negative is normal.” Because negative is the normal state of the world, we must work with it. I cannot motivate Life Mastery clients enough to keep them fired up from one session to the next, so I require them to read or listen to something motivational every day.
We must swim upstream to keep the negativity from derailing our dreams. A daily habit of self-motivation is fundamental to keep your enthusiasm high for accomplishment. James Bryce said, “The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.” Not every book you pick up will be dazzling in its ability to inspire you, and all you need is one good solid idea to make a book worth reading. However, there are a lot of books out there that are a waste of time. To help you avoid that pitfall there is a Suggested Reading List available here for you.
These are books that have proven themselves in the lives of real people. I have read each one and can vouch for them. Here are a few suggestions to keep you motivated:
- Have a physical book handy and read from it every day.
- Underline everything that speaks to you in any way: every good idea, new thought, and inspiring sentiment. When you have finished the book write those things in a journal. By writing them they become more solidly a part of your working knowledge. When that journal is full, you will have a volume where every word is inspiring to you.
- Have an audio program on your phone and listen to it while you commute and other times you might be alone.
- Always know what you will be reading or listening to next
